Karine Ghazinyan appointed Armenia’s Ambassador to the UK

President Serzh Sargsyan signed decrees on relieving Karine Ghazinyan of the position of Deputy Foreign Minister and appointing her Armenia’s Ambassador to the UK, Mediamax was told in the presidential press service.Mediamax recalls that the position of Armenia’s Ambassador to the UK was vacant since June 2010, after Ambassador Vahe Gabrielyan had been appointed the Head of Diplomatic Academy of Armenian Foreign Ministry.
Karine Ghazinyan was also the chief negotiator from the Armenian side on concluding the Association Agreement with the EU.

"WHITE ILLUSIONS" CONCERT BY KAREN GRIGORORYAN AT ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL

On September 1 Karen Grigoryan presented "White Illusions" concert at Royal Festival Hall in London, a concert consisting of his greatest experimental classical works and performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra.The concert were organized by the "INVERSE" and "Kazakh Gala" cultural organisations under auspices of Armenian Embassy in London and the British Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The concert was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia's independence. This gala was an opportunity to gain an insight into the work of one of today's foremost Armenian contemporary classical composers, performed by one of London's premiere orchestras.The Philharmonia Orchestra was led by the acclaimed conductor Marius Stravinsky, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Karelia Philharmonic Orchestra (KPO). Around 2000 people, representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in UK, representatives of UK's political, social and cultural circles, as well as local Armenian community attended the event.

CHANGE OF UK AMBASSADORS TO ARMENIA


Mr Jonathan James Aves and Ms Katherine Jane Leach, a husband and wife team, have been appointed Her Majesty’s Joint Ambassadors to the Republic of Armenia in succession to Mr Charles John Lonsdale, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Aves and Ms Leach will take up their appointment during January 2012. Both Mr Aves and Ms Leach will be permanently resident in Yerevan and alternate in exercising the functions of Ambassador on a four-monthly rotation. Mr Aves and Ms Leach joined the FCO in 1996 and 2000 respectively, following careers in academia and public opinion research.

Armenian Street Festival

The Primate's Office of the Armenian Church of United Kingdom and Ireland organized on 12 June 2011 the first Armenian Street Festival in London in cooperation with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London.
The festival followed church services on the Feast of Pentecost. It included an impressive programme of entertainment including Armenian songs, music and dance, as well as a children’s area with puppet show, bouncing castle, and other activities.
There were stalls with vendors selling paintings, books, jewellery, arts and crafts.

London's Armenian community marks 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

More than a thousand members of the Armenian community in the UK marched through London to Downing St, calling on the UK government to recognise the Turkish Genocide of Armenians in 1915.
On 24 April 1915 the Turkish authorities arrested around a thousand leading members of the Armenian community in the capital city of Constantinople (now Istanbul) and murdered them. They went on to disarm and kill around 300,000 Armenian men who had been conscripted into the Turkish Army.

Armenian and British Charities Celebrated at Buckingham Palace

LONDON — His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales hosted a historic Anglo-Armenian charity event in support of Armenian and British charities at Buckingham Palace on 15 June. Project initiator and main benefactor Armen Sarkissian, former Prime Minister of Armenia and President of Eurasia House International, welcomed more than 250 guests from around the world with His Royal Highness.
Members of the royal family, dignitaries, world renowned political, cultural and civic leaders, and senior executives of global corporations attended this unique charity event.

Armenian British Business Chamber (ABBC)

The official opening ceremony of theArmenian-British Business Chamber (ABBC) took place in Yerevan on June 3. Chairman of the Armenian-British Connect and member of ABBC Board Hayk Harutyunyan said that the idea on ABBC establishment aroused one year ago, and due to huge efforts of allies its registration in Yerevan became possible.“The Chamber will serve as a multifunctional platform for the British and international business, as well as it will facilitate the Armenian-British business and economic ties,” Harutyunyan said.ABBC was established by 14 members – Armenian and British companies operating in Armenia.
